SERVICES
Dr. Valoo offers individual psychotherapy, couples
psychotherapy, psychoeducation, and psychological
assessments to individuals eighteen years and older. Dr.
Valoo’s emphasis of practice is in the assessment and
treatment of emotional and cognitive difficulties with
adults. A psychological assessment provides important
information about your social, emotional, behavioural,
and/or cognitive functioning and may entail clinical
interview/s, questionnaires, tests, and observations. A
comprehensive cognitive assessment involves an
investigation of your intellectual functioning, academic
skills, memory, attention, and executive functions and
includes a clinical interview/s, testing, scoring,
analysis, interpretation, report writing, and feedback.
The assessment information is presented in a written
psychological report. Treatment services address a range
of issues including trauma, chronic pain, acculturation,
anxiety, bereavement, childbirth, childhood abuse,
ethnicity and culture, disabilities, depression,
employment-related stress, ethnicity, grief,
interpersonal relationships, intimacy, loss, parenting,
pregnancy, stress, personality disorders, and
psychiatric issues. Dr. Valoo also provides supervision
and consultation to trainees in mental health.
APPROACH
Evidence-based assessments and treatments, current
empirical research findings, and guidelines and laws set
up by professional and regulatory organizations govern

honesty and a commitment to change. Dr. Valoo’s role is

that you feel are important to your functioning. She
supports and encourages change in a safe and
confidential therapeutic atmosphere by using an
experiential treatment approach that encompasses
cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural
therapy, emotion focused therapy, gestalt therapy,
redecision therapy, transactional analyses, and imago
relationship therapy. Dr. Valoo attends to the
uniqueness of your experiences and the cultural context
within which this uniqueness emerges. She endorses a
strong emphasis on cultural sensitivity in the practice
of psychology and attends to the complexities associated
