Jay Shanker, Clinical Associate


Jay obtained an undergraduate degree in Psychology (B.A. with Honors) from York University in 2011 and a Master’s Degree in Psychology (M.Psy.) from the Adler School of Graduate Studies in 2015. He is currently fulfilling requirements of the College of Psychologists of Ontario towards registration as a Psychological Associate, which entails working under the direct supervision of a registered psychologist.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Jay has clinical training and experience with adults, adolescents, couples, and groups in hospital and private clinic settings. He is trained in a range of clinical issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, interpersonal relationships, chronic pain, and addiction. His work and life experiences inform his understanding of the many challenges that arise in different stages of life.

APPROACH

Jay is trained in different therapeutic approaches including integrative cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic, interpersonal, and mindfulness, to help clients identify and work through maladaptive patterns that can affect relationships, block goals, and lead to negative emotional states such as depression and anxiety. His non-judgmental, compassionate, and sincere style facilitates the therapeutic process and helps clients identify personal goals and generate strategies toward positive change.

Jay is trained in assessments, which he assists with under the direct supervision of a registered psychologist.

ABOUT

Outside of clinical practice Jay enjoys spending time with family and friends, and is an avid traveller.
