SERVICES
Dr. Pohlman helps her clients
explore solutions to a wide variety of
emotional and mental health issues. She
provides treatment services to children,
adolescents, adults, couples and
families. As an insightful clinician and
skilled diagnostician, she combines up-to-date
expertise with experience and compassionate
support. Dr. Pohlman counsels children,
adolescents and their families experiencing
difficulties with school adjustment, stress,
anxiety or depression, ADHD, conflicts with
parents or siblings, or struggles involving
emotional turmoil following parental
separation, divorce, death or trauma.
She has a special interest in treating
families who have a troubled adolescent
member, having worked during 1987-1998
providing services exclusively to an
adolescent population. Dr. Pohlman also
treats adults with problems such as
depression, anxiety, stress, bereavement, and
difficulties adjusting to life’s
changes. She works with couples where
one or both partners may be struggling with
issues of this nature.
APPROACH
Dr. Pohlman has training and
experience in a variety of treatment
approaches and her therapeutic orientation can
best be described as eclectic. She
believes the therapeutic approach should be
tailored to the needs of the client. Dr.
Pohlman has trained in family systems
approaches, behavioural, cognitive
behavioural, psychodynamic, experiential, and
gestalt approaches.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Dr. Pohlman received her
Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the
University of Windsor in 1986 and has been
registered with the College of Psychologists
of Ontario since 1988. She brings over
20 years of experience providing direct
treatment and consultative services in
education, mental health and independent
practice settings. Dr. Pohlman is well
known in the field of education, having served
as a psychologist and leader with Boards of
Education in the Windsor, Ottawa, York, and
Durham regions. She's previously held the
position of Chief Psychologist for the York Catholic
District School Board and Supervising Psychologist with
the Durham District School Board.
ABOUT
Dr. Pohlman is a strong
believer in supporting the profession of
psychology. She has served with the
Ontario Psychological Association (OPA) as
President-Elect (2000), President (2001) and
Past President (2002), as a member and Chair
of the Governance Committee and the Membership
Task Force, as President of the Section on
Psychology in Education, as a Regional
Director (Toronto) and as Education Practice
Area Director. She has also been an
examiner of new psychological registrants for
the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
Dr. Pohlman was awarded the OPA’s Award of
Merit in 2004 for her outstanding
contributions to the Association, and its Section
on Psychology in Education Award of Merit
in 1998 for outstanding contributions to
psychology within the educational sector.
Dr. Pohlman enjoys spending
quality time with family and friends, is a
strong supporter of the Arts, loves travel and
spending time in the great outdoors involved
in running, cycling, hiking, canoeing,
kayaking and cross-country skiing. In
addition to these leisure activities, she also
devotes considerable time to professional
development in keeping abreast of changing
developments in her areas of practice.
