SERVICES
Matt provides psychoeducational
assessments and therapy to children and adolescents. He
has experience in the assessment of learning
disabilities, developmental disabilities and
social-emotional difficulties. In therapy, he uses an
integrative approach pulling from multiple theories, and
has a particular interest in working within the family
system.
Matt received his Master’s degree in
School and Clinical Psychology from the University of
Toronto in 2019 and is currently working towards his PhD
in the same program. Prior to his work in psychology,
Matt received his Bachelor’s in Education from the
University of Toronto and spent five years teaching
classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
APPROACH
Matt practices in a range of modalities,
including Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Emotion-Focused and
Cognitive-Behavioural. After working closely with the
individual/family to hear their story, Matt draws upon
techniques from each in order to create a treatment plan
to best meet their needs. He also understands that
goals often shift through the course of therapy, so he
likes to include clients in the process throughout to
ensure that they feel understood and believe in the
work. Matt also recognizes the key role families play
in their children’s’ lives and, when appropriate, tries
to work with families as well in developing and
maintaining positive behaviours.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Matt graduated with
his Master’s in clinical psychology in 2019 and is
currently pursuing his doctorate at OISE/University of
Toronto, a CPA accredited program. Understanding that
the therapeutic alliance is a major predictor of
successful outcomes in therapy, his doctoral research
expands upon his clinical interests as he investigates
the best methods to engage children and adolescents in
the treatment process, with a particular focus on
at-risk populations. He has worked within the Toronto
District School Board and private practices conducting
assessments on children and adolescents with
wide-ranging presenting issues. Prior to his work in
psychology, Matt was a teacher, spending one year
teaching kindergarten and four years in high schools
teaching English, Mathematics and Social Studies. He
tries to integrate his teaching experience with his
clinical work, considering the realities of the
classroom setting when making recommendations to best
ensure that a student’s needs are met.
